What do you school district expect kids to know starting kinder?

My son does not go to public school, but he had to know letters, how to count to 10, tie a shoe, and write his name.

mine went to preschool - age 3= funded through public school with IEP-special needs
just finished 4 yr old kinder = public school
and will start 5 yr old kinder next fall = public school

she can not do what her peers can
i have learned to ignore the standards- have to or i would feel too bad and my head would explode -lol

basically 4 yr old kinder is for social skills- if they pick up the letters, numbers and writing name =great
will see what 5 yr old is about next year

daughter (almost 5) has extra help-OT, Speech and special ed...she will get there when she gets there

she can copy letters, but can not say or sing the ABCs
some days she can count to ten or more-
addition or subtraction not a chance
knows most shapes and rarely gets colors wrong

i have found out that most states to NOT have 4 year old kindergarten
i am in Wisconsin- so glad this state has two years of kindergarten

does any other state offer two years of kinder??

Reg ed kids need to know 1-10(by sight),all 8 regular colors,all major shapes,and memorize a sheet of 40 sight words within 2 weeks of school starting

you have to be 5 by sept 4. if not then you have to wait a whole year! and they don't do mandatory pre-school headstart here. but i did find one school who has it's own rule where they have to know basic english to get into it.
