how to help with rsv with a 5 week old

any tips or advice would be very helpful thanks

  • Keep his head elevated.
    Run a humidifier in his room.
    Steam in a bathroom and suction what you can.
    Saline nasal drops and suction as you can.
    Tylenol for discomfort.

    Do NOT suction very often...just if you can see stuff there. Too much suctioning can cause the nasal passages to swell making it difficult for them to breathe.

    Watch for breathing difficulty and fever. If you notice s/he has trouble breathing...get to the ER. If the nostrils are flaring, the chest is sucking in, the lips or the nailbeds are turning blue...get to the ER!!

    I hope it's a milder case for you! (we ended up in the PICU)
