4 year olds and nosebleeds

My 4 y/o got his first bloody nose last night at 12:30 in the morning. We got it to stop for now, but it still has not fully stopped. Daycare called to tell me they had to clean him up a bit, but he was doing ok.

Is this normal?

  • is the air really dry where you are? If yes get some Ocean Nasal spray (or the store brand) and use this a few times a day. It's only saline, not medicated so it's safe for all ages. It will help heal the issue and help prevent nose bleeds from happening. If this doesn't help call his doc to find out what causing them.

  • You mean it hasn't stopped since 12:30 this morning? My Dr always told me to pinch my nose right below the bridge for 5 minutes and if that didn't stop the bleed, it was time to go to the ER. If it's just from dry skin, I would recomend the Ocean Nasal spray as well. GL!

  • A lot of kids don't like the Ocean Spray. Vaseline on a qtip swabbed in the nostril will prevent dryness too. I find it works better and lasts longerthan saline spray.

  • It did stop. There was a little blood on his pillow case when he got up and at school they had to stop it again. I will try the vaseline tonight to see if that helps. Goodness, if it was still bleeding I would have it checked out.
