Why is it not ok to be against gay rights?

I was reading a post and this girl is explaining why she is against gay rights. She's being called a bigot and ignorant. But doesn't that mean those people are acting the same way? It's like that saying goes, "If you hate haters, does that make you a hater?" Why is is not ok to have a feeling against gays. I highly doubt this girl is hazing gay people or rallying at Congress against them. So why is it ok to call her names about being "close minded" but she can't have an opinion about being gay?

  • Marriage -- any marriage -- isn't a right at all. No one, regardless of sexual orientation, has the right to marry. This is what irritates me most about this issue. Marriage is a choice, a choice two people make together. Therefore, homosexuals are not having their rights trampled.

Now, I'm sure the downvotes will start racking up.

  • "...Therefore, homosexuals are not having their rights trampled."

the govt. gives special tax benefits & more to those who are married. the govt has made the choice to not allow homosexuals the choice to marry thus making it impossible for homosexual couples to receive govt benefits...thats denying something based on something they can not control. when the govt started giving special benefits to married couples they made marriage a right.

but im sure if you went to another country and they claimed your marriage was illegal you'd still feel that it was just a choice & not a right.

  • You can be against it all you want but when your opinions interfere with gays having the same rights we heterosexuals share then it is WRONG!

Hmmm... it's not about the actual act of getting or being married, it's about all the "benefits" that are attached to marriage. In that respect, their rights are being trampled because they are not allowed the same benefits as heterosexual couples.

  • We get it OOP, you're an intolerant bigot against gays having the same human rights as everyone else. You just need to man up and deal with the "negative" opinions that come your way for being such an ass, mmkay?

  • If it's a right, I suppose that means that at some point, someone who desperately wants to marry but can't find a partner (either gender) could theoretically sue to require the government to provide said person with a partner.

We do have subsidized housing, food stamps, welfare. We could have gov't arranged marriages before too long.

And, no, I'm not being facetious.
