If I had ever had a son, I would have named him Joel Michael. Then my sister up and married a guy named Joel, and my boyfriend has a nephew with that name. So maybe it was meant to be that I didn't have a boy.

My favorite girl names have changed over time. When I was younger, I would have named a girl Jamie Elizabeth, since my middle name is Elizabeth and my ex husband's middle name is James. When I got pregnant years after my divorce and found out I would be having a girl, I wanted to call her Amy Susanne, "beloved lily", but I couldn't do that because her last name starts with an S. The initials tell all. Now I think Sarah Elizabeth is perfect, for a special reason beyond the fact that my daughter shares my middle name. Sarah and Elizabeth were both women in the Bible who couldn't have children till they were in their old age. Sometimes I feel old--and blessed--to be a mom at 41!

I also got to use my favourite girl name - my daughter's name is Violet....but I after 10 years it still bothers me I never got to use Theo or Ted for my son....and I think the name would have been perfect for him...he so reminds me of a Teddy Bear....lol
