My daughter is 5 months pregnant and she looks like she is 3 months. She is orginally a size 3 6 feet tall and very thin. While pregnant she has gain some weight but still petite. She rarely takes her vitamines and she does eat and drink plenty of water. She loves to walk so she excercise. the doctor says that she to small to take a sonagram they tried it and could not see the sex of the baby and I know the baby is alive because it moves. Will she evently gain more weight in her later months? She is 18 and very active.

  • I don't know what doctor would say she's too small to even take a sonogram, that wouldn't matter, just less fat to look through.

Babies do not always cooperate with the gender ultrasound. Regardless of the size of the mother.

  • I would think this is something that should be between her and her doc... especially since w/o her PMHx we can't really tell you a thing.

  • I dont understand the "too small to take a sonogram" part. You can have a sonogram when you are not pregnant, so how can a person be too small??? You can have a sonogram just to determine pregnancy at a few weeks, so Im really not getting the too small part. As far as how she "looks"... well she is 6 feet tall. I am also 6 feet tall and it took me forever to show. Our torso's are longer so there is more for a baby before they "stick out"....

    That's the best I have....

  • Women that are small to begin with tend to be smaller during their pregnancy. I was a size 2 when I got pregnant. I didn't even look like I was pregnant at all until 6 months, then all of a sudden I had a baby belly. If she is gaining and eating healthy, nit smoking or drinking, there is nothing to worry about.

  • I am 19 weeks, and I don't look pregnant. I look more chubby than anything. I actually lost 20lbs in the first trimester. My dr. hasn't been too concerned yet, although she said if I hadn't gained anything by my next appointment she would have to run some tests. ( my appointment is tomorrow) Are they positive of her due date? I had an u/s done at 5 and then at 7 weeks pregnant and will have my anatomy scan next week. Her uterus is still the same size as anyone who is 5 months, so she can't be "too small"

  • I don't understand the sonogram thing either, but the rest sounds perfectly healthy and perfectly normal. First, she is very tall, and the women I know who are on the taller side haven't popped out as quickly as I have at only 5'1" because there is more room to spread out.

As far as the activity goes, most doctors agree that you can engage in most of the same activities you participated in before pregnancies (only excluding those that have a high risk of injury or fall...like mountain climbing and horseback riding). They ENCOURAGE women to stay fit because it makes labor and delivery much easier, and they won't be carrying around unhealthy weight afterward. With my first 2, I was very active, gained 30lbs or less, and delivered easily...my third time I let myself gain way too much and I'm still carrying it around!

  • I never looked more than 5 months pregnant with my daughter. It tur Ed out she was in a happy ball on the upper side of my uterus. She was a 7 pounder and I was barely 38 weeks when she was born.
