We went in for our 4 yo check up today and the ped asked about what she was doing that would have caused an increase in her overbite. I explained what she does with her blanket at night which is chews on the satin binding almost like sucking on it. I was told that she needed to quit doing that or she would cause herself some severe dental problems as she gets older. I got the same schpeil (sp) from the dentist a month ago. I was hoping to wait for her to give this up on her own, but we decided to take those blankets out of commission. We had a 3 hour long temper tantrum this afternoon and then she cried for about 2o mins tonight before she came out and asked to sit with me for a few minutes. I let her b/c she was just really upset by this.
Did I just set us back in the re-learning to self soothe department? I want to get through this but I feel like crap from a cold and want so badly to just give her the blanket back, but I know that will just turn into a frickin nightmare when we try to do it again.
