  • Initially- you will probably become engorged and leak as your body adjusts.
Consider what would happen to you as baby begins sleeping longer through the night.

Your body will eventually stop producing during that time frame due to demand and supply. Remember at some jobs it is possible to pump during breaks and at lunchtime. That may be an option to consider so baby still has the benefits.

  • You can always pump at break or during lunch... whenever you have a private time alone.

  • I think you will be a little uncomfortable until your body adjusts to the new nursing schedule.

  • Nope. Milk is made ON DEMAND. When baby latches, that's demand and milk is made. Same with a pump.

You will likely be uncomfortable, though, unless you stop to pump. If your employer has a payroll of more than 50, they MUST accomodate you.

  • depending on how often you are nursing now, it might take a while to adjust. i went back to work when my LO was 6 months. I could go all day without pumping if I needed to. Say I was in meetings or training all day. otherwise I always pumped. On the days I didn't pump during the day, I had to at night because LO could drink it all. :)

I pumped to maintain my supply so I could feed her like normal on weekends and so she got bottles while I was away. otherwise, I think it would have taken a couple of weeks to even out.

  • I was able to train my body. After a few weeks of just nursing, I introduced the bottle at noon. Everyday at noon I gave her a bottle and didn't nurse. Then a week later I replaced another feeding with a bottle. In the end, when I went back to work, I nursed in the morning, sent her to daycare with bottles. Never needed to pump. When I got home around 5 I nursed, I nursed all evening and through the night. I was able to keep that up with 2 kids for around 9 months each. It worked great for me.
