Pregnant and no insurance

If i am pregnant and do not have insurance, can i still deliver in a hospital when i go into labor. Like if i don't have prenatal care during pregnancy because i can't afford all the office visits. can i go to a few that i can afford. Will they still allow me to deliver in a hospotal? I do not qualify for any type of assistance, but can't dish out $300.00 for as many doctors appointments are the normal.

  • What state do you live in? There should be some sort of option for you to get assistance regardless.

  • Most states have higher income guidelines for a pregnant woman than for others. Look into it. The hospital will not turn you away if you show up to deliver without insurance, but they will charge you for the whole thing and you will be lucky to walk away with $10,000 in debt from it. You might want to look into a midwife and homebirth if you don't qualify for insurance.

  • you really should try to get on state aid cuz the prenatal care is super important. worst case scenerio you can talk to the drs and see if they will bill you for it. but the hospital will deliver you no matter what (or you can make up a ssn)
