  • Foster care - most of the time it won't cost a dime.

  • We adopted internationally..China actually and our adoption was $26K.. after it was all said and done, we spent maybe $5K... Dh's employer gives adoption benefits up to $10K and we got $7700+ and $2K from my ex-employer. We also got the adoption tax credit of $11,360.
If you want little to no costs, Foster to adopt is the way to go. In most states the costs are minimal or non existent.

  • Look into a foster/adopt program in your area.

  • "promise children" most of their adoption is paid for already. They also have a $4,500 loan for 3 yrs @ 0% interest.
Our daughter is from India and was a promise child.

We tried the foster system and came up against a brick wall???? It just never worked for us. We have thought about trying again. Maybe it just wasn't our time!

  • Foster care adoptions are less expensive...sometimes close to $0. You have to pay for a physical, background check and final lawyer fees but otherwise no expenses.

  • I highly recommend adopting from foster care. We've had a wonderful experience. It is possible to adopt a baby from foster care (not just older children) but be aware that they may have some degree of prenatal drug/alcohol exposure (as the older kids may as well). Adopting from foster care is an amazing journey with both challenges and awesome rewards!
