  • Well I do not live near you but you seem to be trying to do all the right things. Has your son been evaluated? Evaluation takes about 6 months. He should also see a Neurobehavioral Pediatric Specialist. Good Luck to you.

  • His doctor app is next week I'll talk to him about that,he is seeing a doctor who know's behavioral problems....his last few doctors kept telling us he is fine after looking at him for 5 min.they said he is being a kid,I couldn't beleave what they were saying. So we talked to his counslor and she refered us to this doctor were seeing next week and hopefully he will get us somewhere so he can get better.I feel soo bad for him he has no friends even our family want us to leave brandon and just bring our daughter,he could be the most lovable kid and could be good but he just blows up at time and we dont know when something will trigger everything.I just hope by the time he starts school he is a diffrent kid and wont have any problems at school.have any body on here put there child on medication?does it really work?
Thank you soo much booklover for giving me advice I really need to talk to people about all this.

  • You could label him with bipolar, schizophrenia, autism, etc. but there's not a ton of comfort in that. It sounds like you guys are doing what you can for him and I think you just keep digging, keep trying and educating yourselves and finding resources. I'm not a fan of medicating kids but clearly if it's going to improve their daily function, it's worth it. Hang in there Mom.

  • Do you have bipolar in your family? It is genetic.

  • They used to say that mental health disorders didn't manifest itself until the kids were older, but they are finding out that isn't true. I work at a school for kids who have emotional disorders and as we only serve 1 through 8th grades, I can tell you that kids DO have these issues at a young age.

As a teacher, I am not allowed to diagnose, but as we are the ones in the front line, we usually know that something is wrong. That doctor that said he was fine and just being a kid is way off. Just keep your head up and keep pushing for answers.

  • Please consider asking your doctor to refer you to a specialist who can evaluate your son for Asperger's syndrome or autism. I know it's hard to think that your little boy might have these problems, but having dealt with similar issues in my stepson for the past nine years, I strongly urge you to find out the truth and face it while he is still young. There are therapies available, and many of the behaviors can be overcome. My stepson's parents and I are going to an appointment on Tuesday for the first step in the evaluation Tuesday morning, so if you let me know where to write,I'd be glad to tell you what goes on.

  • There are a lot of kids out there with problems these days and we're making progress with mental health (thankfully). Makes me sad he refers to his "bad" brain. No kid asks for this kind of thing. You want the best for your son as we all do for our kids. I think people may have their limits with Brandon and you can't do much about that but it doesn't mean you love him less. There will be people in his life that can work with / play with him so you try to focus on that. Like others have mentioned, there are good therapies out there that are helping every day. Go with your gut and keep searching for help. I have a friend with Bipolar (grownup) and he takes his meds daily and is very successful.
