Any advice for a mom preparing her DS for preschool?

So my DS starts school next month and i am so nervous, but i dont want to make him nervous. I always tell him that his going to go to school and go play with kids and color, sing, and read. He sometimes says yes then there is times that he says no i dont want to and he says that he is going to cry if i leave him. I've been trying to get him involve with the whole shopping thing and he likes it we recently went shopping for his supplies and i told him that his taking all of this to school and that his going to have so much fun. I still haven't gotten his backpack but i plan on taking him and letting him pick that out and his shoes. This is my first child so i am very scared not just for me but for him too. So any advice you have for me will be appreciated.

Meet the teacher day is on August 23 and hopefully Noah likes his teacher and feel comfortable with him.

  • You're doing it right. Just talk up how much fun he's going to have. It'll be good for him. My daughter did preschool last year and LOVED it.

  • Maybe you are making to big a deal out of it. Not criticizing just saying. It just is. It doesn't need to be brought up all the time. That just creates anxiety because it must be a big deal if yuare obsessed with i. You see what I am saying. If you aproach it more as just the natural progression of things it sets a calmer tone.

  • @dardenella i dont tell him everyday i understand where your coming from i made the mistake of doing that at first and i notice that he would get nervous, so i stopped. But theres days when he brings it up and i just make sure to tell him that he is going to have fun and that everything will be just fine.

  • If he brings it up then talk it up with him. Don't mention it if he doesn't. Do let him know a couple of days in advance about the Meet the Teacher and the day before so he is ready for it. Letting him pick his stuff out is a great idea. He really will have a great time. He might cry the first few times he goes, but he will get used to it and end up loving it.
