what is a false positive on a preg/blood test

  • There are no such things as false positives, seeing as the blood test and urine test both only turn positive after detecting the hCG Hormone. Generally if a woman suffers a "false positive" it means she may have had a chemical pregnancy (where the egg fertilizes, but does not implant or it fertilizes, implants and then dies). Some women will also have a "false positive" if they are using some fertility drugs that contain hCG in them.

  • My friend got a positive blood test in march that turned out to be false. She went along for 2 months feeling pregnant etc. and then the pregnancy disappeared. It was not a miscarriage, her body literally thought it was pregnant when it was not. The dr said it can be caused by hormonal inbalances.
