What to do about lying?

I CATCH him doing something wrong and he sits there and insists he didn't do it. He gets punished but I'm so sick of it.

What do I do?

  • I have 2 magic fixes in this house. One and most effective is early bedtime - mine hate going to bed early and the mere threat of that happening keeps them in line. Two is no video games until...and then I pick a day; that fills them with horror and they straightened up right away.

  • Never ask- Tell.
Did you (insert activity)? leaves the option of a lie.
Why did you (insert activity)? allows them to explain reasoning.

I also say, "I know you (activity), that's why I didn't ask "if" you did it".
Since I have started doing this it has eliminated a lot of stress for the kids and myself.

    Meooma's technique sounds good too.
