Do you respect your parents? Are they decent people who deserve respect?

Do I respect them? Not really my dad. I am respectful TO him though. I respect my mom, she was the one to instill my morals, and teach me things about life. My dad is a good guy, has a good heart, but he is a very scarred man who hides behind his beer. And I cannot respect that. Alcohol has led him to do stupid things, like it led to my parents divorce after 15 years of marriage, he remarried then cheated on her numerous times, it's not confirmed, but I think he slept with my husbands younger cousin (19 at the time, also WAS a bridesmaid) 5 weeks before my wedding...etc; I dont have alot of contact with him, other than my childrens birthdays and holidays.

Yes I do respect them. I believe everyone is deserving of respect until proven otherwise. However, I have never agreed with what they do 100% and I probably never will.

My dad pretty much abandoned me at 2 years old. He died in 1989
My mom...ugh. that's a long story. She married a convicted child molester/rapist in 1988. When I was 17 he tried to rape me. She stayed with him. they divorced in 1993. We have had a strained relationship ever since. She never apologized for any of that time. Frankly she's lucky I want anything to do with her now
