Yes, more hoopla over Chick-fil-A. If you're tired of discussing this subject, remember that you can pass on reading or responding. You have that right. You have the power. ;-)
This man, Matthew Paul Turner, has received a lot of attention over his blog entitled 5 Reasons Why the Church Failed Yesterday.
I think he made a lot of really good points, among them is that many of those who attended the rally around CFA probably didn't do so with the express intention of showing their hate, or at least disdain, for a number of our population, but they did so nonetheless.
There's another quote that I'd like to share on this topic, but don't know who the author is to be able to give proper credit. Once I find out who he or she is, I'll edit in the name, but this, in effect, is the message that the supporters of CFA sent out:
"To all the people who attended the Chick-fil-a appreciation day. I hope you all enjoyed your chicken. Because it came at a huge cost. I'm talking about all the gay and lesbian youths in your community - some of whom may be your sons and daughters, nieces and nephews, classmates, or students. These kids are subjected to taunting, bullying and hate filled messages every single day. This chronic abuse on top of all the other angst of youth wears down their self esteem, it fills them with guilt and shame and self hatred. It drives them to self destructive behaviour including withdrawal and isolation, substance abuse and suicide.
"Yesterday, your cavalier act of smugly proclaiming your antigay animus en masse was very likely the most profoundly hurtful victimization these kids have ever experienced. They watched as their friends, family, neighbours, pastors, teachers and many other people they looked up to - glibly took time out of their day to all come together for the sole purpose of declaring their disdain of gay and lesbian people. How could a gay youth not be hurt by that? How could the bullies who make that youths life a living hell not feel validated and encouraged by that?"
