After having your first child, did you have to purchase a whole new wardrobe for yourself because of all the body changes?

I am almost three weeks post partum and my maternity pants won't stay up and my pre-pregnancy pants... I can't get up!

I am stuck in yoga pants for now until I know if I need a whole new wardrobe or not. Ugh... I need clothes but I don't know if I should spend the money or not yet.

What has your experience been?

  • I did not buy a whole new wardrobe because once my belly went back to shape, (two months) I could wear my old clothes again, and because I breastfed, I lost weight quickly and even some of my old clothes were too big. BUt after I had my twins, I had to buy all new because nothing fit. I had gained like twenty pounds, and even while I breastfed twins, I gained even more weight. :(

  • I waited it out a few weeks til I could fit my old pants. If you buy a Bella Band, it will help keep up your maternity pants, or allow you to wear your old pants unbuttoned if you can get them up there!

  • I just bought a couple outfits that i could wear until i lost the weight, I could wear my most of my regular clothes by 1 month pp.
i would just buy a couple things instead of a whole new wardrobe if i were you.

  • I was very blessed to be able to wear my normal clothes the whole pregnancy! So I didn't have to buy maternity clothes and I didn't have to buy new clothes after I had my daughter, I just brought new ones anyways!! LOL

  • Yepp, i had to buy a whole new wardrobe but then i didn't see the point because later on i was pregnant with Tristan and then my other 3 and i wasted lots of money on new clothes i didn't wear that often. And i threw my maternity clothes out and wasted hundreds of pounds buying new ones.

  • Just get a couple pairs of pants until you see how you're going to do with weight loss.....

I say that as I still have 24lbs to go and I had my last one 2 years ago....I can say there is NO WAY these hips are getting back into a size 6! Not going to happen....

  • At 3 weeks, it's not even about weight loss yet. Your internal organs haven't even resumed their pre-pregnancy position in your body. I did not buy a whole new wardrobe. There were some things I couldn't wear until several months to a year postpartum and I did buy a few pairs of pants in a larger size or with stretchy waists to get me through until I could fit into my pre-preg clothes.

  • Nope. I bought regular pants, but bigger sizes for most of my pregnancy. Then, after, I wore them until I fit into my prepregnancy size again. It didn't take too long.

  • Nope. I actually weighed less after I had my daughter then I did before I got pregnant. I did need maternity clothes but my regular clothes fit me right away.
