2 Bumps

Only 3 weekends left until school starts... what to do?

I need a fun inexpensive idea for this weekend? We don't really live near anything cool like a zoo or amusement park, have lots of mountains and a couple pools and one National Park (Great Sand Dunes National Park). Not sure I want to drive far either cause gas is too expensive :P any ideas?

  • I'm assuming you are near Alamosa, CO. If you type into Google cheap kids entertainment near alamosa one of the sites is a family friendly one with a couple of things to do. Theres an alligator farm and some other things to do. You have to think outside the box. Go geocaching, create a scavenger hunt for your kids around the house.

  • You can do some arts and crafts. Make stepping stones for your garden.

  • Any state parks near you? Rivers? A day of hiking and picnicking would be fun.

  • Sand Dunes is fun, if the water is still running through, otherwise it gets pretty hot. Is the hot springs open? I hate driving across the valley, every direction seems so far. LaVeta or through Center. Yuck. I used to live in both Del Norte and Monte Vista.

  • I know you don't want to drive far, but we used to have the best time up in Creede. And there are lots of places to stop along the river. Or go a bit farther and camp up in Lake City.

  • Or jump over the mountain into Salida. The river is really low on this side of the mountains, plenty of areas to play.

  • Yes we are IN Alamosa, I forgot about the Alligator Farm, haven't taken the kids there this year and my son would LOVE that right now! Adnilm, i totally agree, driving anywhere through the Valley sucks lol, that's why we usually stay right in Ala :P Creede sounds nice too, we haven't been up that way in AGES!
