Why do giraffes have long necks?

  • It's adaptation to be able to reach the leaves that are higher off the ground since other animals tend to eat the lower leaves. It's for survival

  • Yes, I was just in East Africa and it's to reach the leaves at the top, evolution.

  • "because their feet stink"...hee, hee! Seriously though, the other two answers were correct - evolution and adaptation. Probably also a co-evolution with the trees. Taller trees survive because they don't get all eaten up, and taller giraffes survive because they can still reach the leaves.
