Do you know the origin of the word marriage?

A word used interchangeably with matrimony and wedlock
It's origins are from the Latin mātrimōnium - mater meaning mother, and monium meaning to take action. So the source of the word is to make a mother. in other words procreative sexual activity

  • Well when you hit menopause it kinda puts a damper on the whole possibility of procreation wouldn't you say

  • Older, maybe you should just stay out of marriage questions considering your obvious confusion over it. And you always reduce things to sex. If I just didn't know better, given on your comments on the subject, it's you that isn't getting any

Ad 40 years of wonderful sexual companionship has left me giddy and happy all the time, this is why I implied you aren't getting any, you have even lost your sense of humor!!! There is no confusion ad, I obviously understand it well when mine has lasted 40 years and he still tickles my pickle!

Your obsession with my sexual activity is getting a little creepy. But what keeps me on even keel is that you eventually use that tact with every person you debate on this subject. What next? Attacking my ability to parent? I think you are too attached to this issue to answer without getting personal.

  • I see you attacking okmanders, claiming that it doesn't mean somethign according to YOUR definition, attacking older, denial of equating anything to sex, back pedaling, of course you "explored the meaning fully" (according to YOUR definition, more back pedaling, accusations of people not reading......

Yeah don't see where i missed anything

  • Unless you're referring to your blurb on "fertility and the act too impregnante are two differnet things" while still harping on your "marriage is for procreative sex ONLY, because it means mother-making" which again goes back to the whole menopause debate as they are no longer able to procreate and thus should no longer be having sex.....and well you can see your mistake

  • No attacks on either. Older comes in with guns blazing on the issue and immediately begins (again) to discuss my sex life. I then bring the origins of the word back to French and then No attacks on either. Older comes in with guns blazing on the issue and immediately begins (again) to discuss my sex life.
Not in my definition. It went from marriage to the french marier (to marry) to marītāre - to provide with a husband or wife

I answered the menopause issue too. In your zealous need to one up, you missed that too

  • Your answer to the menopause/marriage question was that you've discussed this before. You gave a similar response to something I asked a few weeks ago.

Please clarify because it seems a number of us missed it.

  • You do realize that even french derived it;s roots from other languages, yes? And you do realize that YOUR definition is not the ONLY definition or where the entymology ends. Correct? So then it is fine if you wish to apply YOUR definition to YOUR life but that you have no bearing or recourse for demanding that others abide by YOUR definition.
