I went to my bank to cash a reimbursement check for some things I had purchased for work. The check said payable to: My Name. Then underneath that it said "Petty Cash" because it came from the Petty Cash fund.
I give it to the teller, and she says "I can't do anything with this until it is endorsed." I tell her I've already signed it. She says "No, by the second party." (and she's kinda snotty about it, like Im being stupid or something)
I just stare at her a minute. Then Im like "Seriously? Yeah, there's a loser out there who named their kid Petty Cash!"
She says: "Are you telling me Petty Cash isn't a person?" (And she's dead serious!!!)
So I smart off and say: "yeah, it's Johnny Cash's little sister, they named her Petty!!"
Still just get a blank stare, she doesn't say anything or make any move to cash my check, so I tell her "It's a banking term, Sweetheart, and after you give me my money, I suggest you go ask your supervisor to explain it to you."
So I guess my question is, how does someone work in banking and not know a basic term like Petty Cash, and honestly think it is a person????? Would this have surprised you?
