2 Bumps

Would someone being shot at a Klan meeting be proof of the alleged "war on religion"?

Interesting that these 2 articles showed up sequentially on CNN:

Shooting sparks controversy over ‘hate’ designation for conservative group

Conservatives see Family Research Council attack as more evidence of what they call war on religion

FRC has been designated a hate group because they don't simply support marriage, they intentionally disseminate false information about homosexuality and history.  There is little difference between their propoganda, and the type that was used during segregation to classify black people as sub-human.

So with that in mind, would any act against a hate group that also happens to claim Christianity as a tenet be labeled part of this "war on religion"?

  • There is no war on religion in this country.

But besides that, the act of one crazed man without any followers or supporters, does not constitute an act of war.

  • I agree that there is no war on religion. I find that language to be an emotional ploy by people to get others to emotionally react to an unsubstantiated claim.

  • The Klan is known for being a white supremacist group - nothing to do with religion beyond the fact that many of them are probably Christian just because so many people are Christian. So no, someone being shot at a Klan meeting would not be part of a war on religion (and that war does not exist, in my opinion). Someone being shot at a Klan meeting is just someone being shot at a Klan meeting, period. If it were any kind of war at all, it would be a war about race. And even that would only be if an African American shot the person at the Klan meeting, and if it wasn't for personal reasons.

  • The Klan is known for being a white supremacist group

It promotes itself as a Christian organization and won't let non-Protestant Christians join.

  • Oh, really? I didn't know that. I stand corrected on that. But I think I stand by my opinion still that it's not a war on religion and would likely have more to do with race than anything else.

  • Someone please explain this to me. How can having a view of marriage make you a hate group? I don't get it. Having a pro-life view doesn't make you a hater. It makes you a person with a POV. It is the worse kind of propaganda. I believe in the biblical definition of marriage. I am pro-life. I love my gay nephew to pieces. I don't agree with his choices all the time, but I love him still. I want babies born, but I don't hate you if you have an abortion. It makes me sad, but I don't say anything to anyone who has made that choice. This generic 'hate' is illogical to me. Why is the KKK a hate group, but the NBP isn't? I need clarification. At this juncture, I will take it in short sentences with one syllable words so I can understand.

  • How can having a view of marriage make you a hate group?

Having a view doesn't make it hate, having a view perpetuated by malicious lies makes it hate.

    ie:
The bible says it's a sin (view)
Gay men are more likely to molest young boys (malicious lie)
Children need both a male and female adult role model (view)
Contact with gay people will make your children gay (malicious lie)

It is a hate group.  Why do you insist it's not?

    Ideology:  Black Separatist

The New Black Panther Party is a virulently racist and anti-Semitic organization whose leaders have encouraged violence against whites, Jews and law enforcement officers.
