No longer interested in baby food, he wants the real stuff.........

He is 8 months old already has 4 teeth, 2 on top 2 on bottom.....Today we ate at KFC he ate a whole bowl of mash taters....I have slowly been adding in real food. But now he will no longer take baby food, and the formula he will only drink out of a sippy, his choice not mine, so no bashing....
But what kind of food should i give him,
he has had.......
Fruit, veggies, baked potato, bread, mac n cheese,

any more ideas on whatyour little ones ate when they we transitioning into big people food....
And please do not say whatever you are eatimg, because i can only eat mashed up fruit at this time due to medical reasons..................

  • Nothing wrong with mashed up fruit. **grin**

you've got a pretty good variety going already. And normally I would say "whatever you're eating." How about "whatever you would be eating if you weren't limited?"

  • LOL, thanks for being nice about it!!!
He eats what hubby eats, except hub likes things extra spicey..he forgets about ds while preparing food, so i have to watch carefully..

  • I would just do small bits of soft foods (diced)
Banana, sweet potoato, avocado, cooked apples, peaches, pears, noodles, crackers, beets, tiny pieces of soft meats and cheeses are all things he can self feed
and then other foods he might like- yogurt, cottage cheese (he can have dairy don't let people say he's too young, they are wrong), like you already give him.. mashed potatoes, rice, oatmeal
Pancakes (be careful with this one!! They get gummy and and if choked on can be deadly! Because they don't pop out like other foods)
Pretty much... if you can mash it between your fingers he can mash it with his gums

  • Keep it healthy, keep it mashed up and cut up small.
Remember that some "kid" foods are actually dangerous for kids under 4: large globs of peanut butter (once you are willing to give PB), raisins, other dried fruit, marshmallows.
AmiJane has good guidelines. Let him explore but keep it mushy!

  • I would say to just wait on the meats and cows milk. Whatever else you can prepare for him properly, well he is probably ready. The lists already provided sound great. Just watch your little one, he'll tell you what he is ready for!!

  • The previous posters have given you some great ideas. You could boil some chicken or beef until the meat is just about to fall apart. Keep in mind that the meat will shrink during the cooking process. Cut up the meat into small pieces. The meat is so tender, it will pretty much come apart when your son picks it up.

  • My son is 10months and has not eaten baby food in over a month! He wont take it I think it's a texture thing but i'm not sure. I give him basically everything we eat. he eats fruits, veggies, meat loaf, any kind of potatoes, scrambled eggs only if I make sure they are fully cooked, yogurt, cheese he loves cheese and knows exactly what it is! He can even say cheese! basically anything he can chew

  • Yep...he can eat whatever you're ("you" as in the non-babies in the family) eating (and his number of teeth have nothing to do with it) Mine were on all table foods by 9 months and drinking only out of a sippy cup, too.

If you don't want him to eat spicy foods (which, is okay we were told by the pediatrician) then pull a little out before the spices are added. So he's still eating the same thing, just without the spice.

  • Just remember NO egg whites before 1 yr's of age..recommended by ALL Doctor's and ALL baby books I've read. It is linked to causing food allergies HIGHLY.
