DD has not passed a hearing test yet though she has been tested over and over since she was born. We have also seen the ENT many times and each time there has been fluid in her ear. So now they are saying they want to put tubes in her ears to let the fluid drain to try to improve her hearing. Everyone keeps bringing it up... her pediatrician, the audiologist, the ENT... they started jumping on it the second someone said "maybe its fluid in her ear." I do want her to be able to hear and so far the best we have gotten is "moderate hearing loss" but I'm a little nervous about the whole thing. She has had a few ear infections before but there were never more than 3 in 6 months and she hasn't had 1 for over 8 months now. I always thought tubes were for children with chronic ear infections...
So, moms, have you had tubes put in your child's ears? What is/was it like having them? Did you get them done for hearing or frequent ear infections? Did you notice real improvement in hearing response or language development? Did you try to put it off and how old were your kids when you had it done?
On the other side, did any of you not get them for your children? Why not? Are there any big downsides to the tubes? Do you feel like your kids developed just as they should have without them? Do you ever regret not doing it?
I guess just give me your stories. Thanks in advanced!
