  • If they think it's so important to separate them, why allow the guns on campus. A stupid idea having gun toting students in one the country's biggest part colleges

  • No concern about guns in the dorms. I do have concerns about alerting sexual predators - hey, this dorm over here is gun free and guaranteed safe for you to take your pick. You can rest assured of at least 10-15 minutes before anyone who can stop you will show up.

  • I live on a college campus in family housing where no weapons of any kind are allowed. I feel it is a very safe community without guns. It is a gated community

You realize the majority of campuses are not private or gated, right? The OP doesn't state which campus this is, but the Denver one is smack in the middle of the city, just more city blocks mixed in with the office buildings and hi rise apartments. None of the universities where I live are remotely private. Even Notre Dame, which tries desperately to disassociate itself from the nearest town has main roads cutting through campus and has no barriers between the dorms and the local bars.

It's probably not your intent, but that sentiment smacks of some millionaire in a gated community scoffing at people in the inner city being crime victims.

  • Yes, riotgrl, you may lived in campus housing that is gated, but most campus housing is not. The campus housing at the college I went to was most definitely not gated, and well, everyone in WY has guns..so...

  • I do not think guns should be on school campues but that is an ideal when it comes to adult communities.
I think it is positively stupid to post/advertize that a certain home or dorm is gun free. I mean why not put a sign out that says no police will patrol this area of campus? You wouldn't do that becausethe preditors would naturally go where they feel there is the least threat.
I wpuld not put a sign on my door that said I didn't have security alarms either, whether I had them or not.

  • The problem for me is none of the choices.

I think it sounds perfectly safe, but I would want to know if I live with someone with a gun or not. Personally I have no reason to own a gun.

  • I would say number three for right now. I have leanings to both sides of the debate so it's hard for me to decide.

  • IMO, I think that may paint a target on your back. I carry concealed for the reason nobody knows I am carrying therefore give me the element of surprise. And sometimes that 2 second pause the bad guy has at someone drawing down on him can be the deciding factor whether you lived or die.

  • 3. It is a legal right, but it is also a right that has boundaries. I live on a college campus in family housing where no weapons of any kind are allowed. I feel it is a very safe community without guns. It is a gated community and there are armed police that patrol the campus & our neighborhood. I don't feel the need to have a gun in my home to be safe. I think that there are better ways for colleges to work on improving campus security than allowing students to have guns.
