Glass dishes in the oven and temperatures

I'm wanting to make a new recipe for a pot luck coming up. The recipe says to use a 13X9 glass pan. Well the cooking temperature is at 425.

I always thought you could not use glass pans over 350 degrees. Has something changed or do you think the recipe is incorrect?

  • Pyrex is safe up to 450. Go to Americas Test Kitchen's site they did a test on them. Anything over 450 they will explode

  • I've never heard that before. I've used my Pyrex glass dishes in the oven in all sorts of temps without any problems.

  • I've never had a problem using higher temps with my glass pans. But I've also never seen a recipe that specifically said to use a glass pan. If I was in doubt, I'd just use a regular metal pan.

  • Really? Wow. I've been cooking for 25 years and always thought 350 was the limit for glass. Hmmmph.
