2 Bumps

How has the first week (or so) of school been for your child(ren)?

ds finally got in trouble today..5th day of 2nd grade, for talking when he was supposed to be quiet.
looks like it'll be another year of normalcy. lol.

he said, ''i told mrs. boyd it was because my daddy does it, too.''....and y'all thought i was just making wifey-vents.
other than that, he's made 100s on two tests, and didn't have to take a 3rd because he aced the reviews. he was pretty stoked about that.
he decided, on his own, that he didn't want to take after-school music (like last year)..mainly because his crush from k-garten (''mom, we're no longer bf/gf..but i still play with her.'') isn't taking it again.
he thinks he wants to take after-school art...ironically, this is taught by the teacher i had the disagreement with in 1st grade over how she disciplined him (for talking, no less). if anyone recalls, my issue was he said he had no idea why he was punished, that she didn't explain anything to him. when i emailed her to question it, she simply said she ''didn't have time to deal with one student out of turn, when she had 21 others who were ready to learn.''--and had forwarded my query to the principal/vp. i was pissed at how she didn't handle the situation, and let her know it.
then, i found out this summer at VBS she goes to our church. LOL!
now he wants to take her extra class. *sigh*
i emailed to see if she still had space..3days ago, and she has not returned a response. *shrugs*..fine with me..i'll keep my $40-50/mo.

  • DS2 (2nd) had a great week. His 4 teachers are young and pretty. AND he is in homeroom with his best friend.

DD (8th) finally has some new girls in her grade, bringing the total to 10 girls and 9 boys. Yep, 19 kids in the grade. She knows all but 2 of her teachers well, having had them for the past 2 years. And seems to like the others. The tragic news is that she got paired with the class narcissist for not one, but 2 projects. The teachers must think she can handle him because she gets all puppet master with difficult personalities.

And then there is DS1, who started a brand new public high school. He got to hear Jane Goodall on day 2. Day 4 he got recruited for baseball and the robotics team. And today we learned that he will be concurrent with a local college for at least 1 if not 2 classes. And his computer programming skills are already AP level. This is gonna be an interesting year. And the principal knows who he is.

  • Mine don't start until Monday and it seems almost too good to be true. They are starting at a brand new school and will have to learn the layout, but DD already has a few good friends in her class (one lives 4 doors down) and DS makes friends pretty easy. He said he didn't see anyone he knew tonight at meet the teacher night but I am sure he will see someone he knows when they are all there on Monday.

  • has gone much better than expected. LO got put on yellow today and was crushed, she cried for a good while when she got home. Tried to explain that at 4 years old yellow is simply a reminder of the rules but she said she was not good and its not okay because she tried to be good. When I asked why the yellow she really didn't know, that she raised her hand ( to potty) and she was told to go turn her stick to yellow. I am betting that she raised her hand and said teachers namee a thousand times....but we will see Monday so that I can explain it to her.

  • Mne start Monday. I'm a little worried about my son. He starts kinder and he's so shy. He was scared to talk to the teacher during open house. I know he will do fine. I had the same worries with my 7 year old and it took her a few months to open up. I'm going to stay stoic so he can't see my worry.

Yet I can't wait to have ME time where I am not spending all day picking up after them.

  • DD seems to be doing okay, but she wont tell me much...4 going on 13! her teacher is an amazing woman and DD loves her...she even gave us a copy of her curriculum for the year and im very impressed! all i get outta DD is what was for snack and if they got to play outside or not. but in one week ive already noticed a great improvement on her social skills...like talking at dinner, she gets jokes, she interrupts less...its remarkable how quick she's gotten social rules she's never been exposed to before.

  • The boy begged for a year to go to preschool and now after 3 days he is begging to go back to day care lol. I think he likes it its just such a big adjustment for him. Wishing I could keep him little and away from evil little classmates though :(

  • Oh but we did find out on the first day that my husband's friends daughter is in his class so that made me feel a little better since they've played together before and kinda know each other.
