Have you met Deputy US Attorney General nominee? The one linked to porn industry and has defended child porn cases? what do you think?

David Ogden, President Obama's pick for deputy attorney general, used to represent Playboy -- in one case paving the way for the blind to enjoy the magazine at the Library of Congress. Ogden filed a brief on behalf of a group of library directors arguing against the Children's Internet Protection Act. The act ordered libraries and schools receiving funding for the Internet to restrict access to obscene sites. But Ogden's brief argued that the act impaired the ability of librarians to do their jobs. He called it "unconstitutional," though the Supreme Court later disagreed with him and upheld the act.
And he argued, on behalf of several media groups, against a child pornography law that required publishers of all kinds to verify and document the age of their models (which would ensure the models are at least 18). The provisions were struck down.
Ogden was quoted at the time saying the law was "mind-boggling"

  • Are you sure you have the facts right. Unfortunately, Judges have to make sure the law is being followed. We may not like it. It does not mean he supports child porn. Also, so what if he has ties to Playboy. Why shouldn't the blind enjoy Playboy?

  • My Opinion: If he has spent years fighting that certain child porn laws are unconstitutional that leaves a level of concern (imo). What's to say as #2 of the Justice Department Ogden will enforce these laws and defend its constitutionality that he has argued as unconstitutional for 20 yrs.

Anon, you obviously have an opinion, just not sure what it is, since all you are doing is arguing my words and not forming an opinion of your own to the question.  So it doesn't bother you?  Good for you.
