Educational tv programs

I want to curve my childrens desire to relax and watch tv after school, homework, playing outside, snack ect to more educational programs. I have netflix and hulu plus, my children are in elementary. Does any one know of great childrens education programs that go over subjects such as math, reading, science, history, ect. Thank you in advanced for all of your input.

  • Well, Super Why is good for reading and teaching lessons, not sure if that is "too babyish" for your kids or not (mine is only 2). There used to the Reading Corner or something like that on PBS (not sure if it is still running or not).
Hope it helps, mine watches more of the Sesame Street and Team Umizoomi (which both teach math and working together), but I think those might not be interesting to older kids.

  • Our favorite right now is El Perro y El Gato on HBO. It teaches little kids spanish while being hysterical. My kids are 8 and 11 and love it even if it appears to be intended for younger children.

  • Okay, not educational: But I love phenis and Ferb
Another cute cartoon which is for younger children is Somebody's shoes (not Somebody's but a girl's name) that is educational. She'll put on someone's shoes and go to whatever place they come from and learn about their culture.
