Can you look up the meaning of the name "Alyssa"?

Where do I go for an accurate meaning? I have gotten several in my searches. I don't know if some sites just make them up or what.

What I think it is now is "Rational"

Which is 100% perfect with me.

What are you finding?

  • Just looked up in Teresa Norman's A World of Baby Names:

Alyssa: Variant form of Alicia (nobility). See Alicia. Alternatively, the name Alyssa can be derived from the name of the alyssum flower. Var: Alissa (Ah-LIS-sah)

Alicia: Latinate form of Alice (nobility), a name that evolved through a series of variants from the Germanic Adalheidis (noble one, nobility). See Alice (English names) Var: Alycia, Alyssa Pet: Ali (Ah-LEE-see-ah, Ah-LEE-sha)

Alice: small novel if you'd like it I'll post it, but if not I won't.
