  • Selfish? Yes. A woman can choose an epi to receive more joy and satisfaction from her labor and delivery. Just as a woman who chooses not to get an epidural can receive the joy and satifaction of going without it, which can be defined as a selfish act as well. Basic philosophy 101, is there a such thing as an unselfish act? Yes, we have the technology today that affords us the choice. Yes, many will say that women before gave birth without drugs or an epi. Guess what, every generation will have something to say. "We got around fine without a horse and buggy," "we did fine without electricity," "we did fine without cars." Cars, there's a good one. A long time ago women and their children got around fine without vehicles. Guess what, FAR more women and children die or are seriously injured from cars than from epidurals. You could say its more selfish to put your child's life in danger everytime you strap them in your car. CONT:

  • No... Why would she be selfish because she wants to have the energy to care for her baby from moment one instead of handing them off to a nurse for the first 5 or 6 hours of life? I had an epi with both my babies and other than them getting shecked for weight and length and whatnot they were ONLY cared for by ME... No nurses. I never could have done that after 15 hours of painful labor...

  • What has it to do with being selfish?!

Some people can not stand pain. My body for instance is not made to handle any pain. I hit my toe once and it hurt really bad, 1minute later i passed out.

I havent been into labor because i had a scheduled c-section (because of an infection), i got it with an epi because i did not want to sleep when my baby was born. Even if i would have been able to give normal birth, i would prolly have needed an epi, because i would have prolly passed out because of the pain.

So i really dont understand this question?! its def. not selfish. its a choice .. you wanna be in really bad pain or not.

  • No way!!! As long as the baby gets into this world healthy, a mom should never feel guilty about needing an epidural.
