Masquerade dress?

Has anyone ever made their own masquerade costume/dress? I want to take an existing dress in my closet and dress it up enough to pass for masquerade. Any ideas, tips, etc?

  • i'd just wear a cute cocktail dress, don't do anything to it, focus on a cool mask :)

  • I'm making my own mask and I'm thinking I'm going to do something with a dress I already have and add some tulle to it. Luckily I have some time before Halloween.

  • I took an old prom dress and turned it into a wicked witch. The dress had a black velvet strapless bodice with lace inlay and black rhinestone trim with a black satin tea-length skirt with tulle trim. I put on body glitter and lots of false eyelashes and glitter. DH said if there had been more wicked witches like me, then, the whole world would be wicked. (I think that he liked it).
