Fat baby!

My daughter will be 7 months in a few days and weighs about 20-22 pounds. Some people tell me she's fat, but I've always been told babies are supposed to be chunky. She isn't like obese.

I know everyone is going to say "ask her pediatrician" but she can't go to the pediatrician for every little thing 'cause we have been battling the state for her medical benefits (loooong story) and I'm paying for her doctor visits out of pocket.

Anyone else have a chunky baby? Or know what's "normal"??

  • fat, squishy babies are the best! enjoy her sweet rolls because they're likely to disappear when she starts walking :(

  • Shoot....she's nothing compared to mine! Two of mine were over 22lbs at SIX months.

She's fine. If there is a concern, the doctor will note it at her next visit.

Is she happy? Great!!! Does she have any medical issues that a little extra pound could make worse? No? Super!

So she's chunky/fat/has rolls/resembles the Michelin man...LOL...My youngest had so many rolls on his arms it looked like multiple joints!

  • Yeah, she does pretty much resemble the Michellin man. :D She is a VERY happy baby. Especially when we're feeding her. :P

Here you go, this should help. This is the same chart they use at my peds office. You can use it to see how many babies the same age of yours is bigger or smaller. Check it out! :)

  • My LO was really chunky, but as soon as he got more mobile, he thinned out a lot. I wouldn't worry about it. Once she starts walking, she will probably thin out.

  • Yeah, my neighbor's kid was 33 pounds at 9 months and started walking at 1 year and has thinned out A LOT! Jayden was 6lbs 11oz at birth, so she's gained a ton in 7 months. Thanks for the answers :)

  • My dd is 7 months and about exactly the same weight as yours, more towards 20lbs I think, but she is also about 30 in. long so she isn't quite the Michelin Man baby, but she's definitely a chunker!! I'll take a fat, healthy, happy baby ANY DAY over a skinny, petite baby!

  • Look at her last check up stat's. If her height and weight were with in 20% of each other she is fine. Some babies are just bigger than others. She may be 22 pounds but is she also tall? My friends 18 month old son is almost as tall and my 4 year old. He look's chunky but in reality he is proportionate. 95% in height and 80% in weight. If you don't know the percentiles she was in you can look them up. I don't know the site but you could goggle it I'm sure.
