Do you stockpile household items or food?

I have lots of paper products - I buy on sale or with coupons. Ditto cleaning & hygiene items.

  • I buy paper items in bulk from Sams' Club. I always try to maintain TP, paper towels and kleenex. I tend to stock up on canned foods during the winter season, especially soups, tomato sauce, and even pasta. That's about it. I do use coupons for items that are exceptionally good, which means I have to get them for next to nothing. We have a Sear's Grand that has an excellent clearance section and usually use most coupons there. We also are lucky enough to have a great store here that sells over stocks and items that are no longer available, I do excellent there! I buy deodorant, soap, and razors there.

  • Absolutely. What comes out of the garden goes into canning jars. Meat from the pasture goes into the freezer (although more and more into canning jars). When someone hands me a bushel of apples or a bag of potatoes it gets canned or dehydrated and stored in jars. I have over 900 jars, and at any given time at least 2/3 of them are filled. The only paper product I buy regularly is tp ~ although as my one pup ages and makes more messes I've been buying paper towels again. I stock up on wheat and other baking items. Once every few weeks I bring home feed sacks full of sawdust (use it for litter for the cats) for free from the sawmill. I have a farm and we pretty much raise/grow what we eat. Since the garden isn't producing all year, the only way to eat all year is to stock up.

  • To a point. I live almost 20 miles from a grocery store or anything, so I do stock up on certain things especially in winter.

  • Not really. Whenever I grab the last of something, I add it to the list to get 1 or 2 more on my next trip to the store. (depending on sales & coupons I have) I've found buying the store brand paper towels in a 6 pack costs less than $1.00/roll tho, so that is about it for stocking up. Besides canned goods of course.

  • Not really. It's a 5 minute walk to the grocery store so it's easy to go buy something if we forget it. Living in an appartment, we don't have that much room to store things.

  • No. I don't have a ton of storage space. I pretty much just buy what I need when I need it.

  • Nope, I don't have the room for a ton of extra stuff. I will get buy 1 get 1 free at times and hang on to the extra, but not much more than that.

  • I have a small stockpile. I have a large cupboard that is maybe 4 feet tall, 4 feet wide, and 2.5 feet deep that I use to store food, and then I have a tote under one of the bathroom sinks that I use to store bathroom products. I have enough to where I can stock up a little when there are sales, but not to go crazy.

That said, I only shop sales, and I buy several of items that I use regularly during the sale. It works out that just by doing this, I always have enough of everything on hand to make my meals from without going out and buying something specific. For example, I just bought 4 bottles of Italian dressing that was on sale for $1 because I use it a lot for marinating and on will be enough to get me through until the next sale. I got a bag of sugar even though I'm not out because I use it regularly and it was a good sale, etc.
