1 Bump

My son is in the second grade and his homework is asking about addends

my son has addends questions an example is 15+37=?
I understand the addend is 15 and 37 but then the question is show how to make one addend the next ten..
By ten do they mean 62. since the answer of the question is 52?
someone please help me...

  • Would this be a way of teaching estimating? So to make an addend the next 10 you'd say 40 instead of 37? so the estimated answer would be 55? I don't know. this is just a guess.

  • If the answer is 52 then that is straight up addition and not estimation. This iss a very confusing question and I am sorry but I do not know what to tell you.
