What type of fabric for couch for a house with pets?

I am shopping for a new couch. I have one very wonderful black lab who sheds soft black fur and one white fluffy cat who still has her claws. I was thinking of getting microfiber as i think the cat won't want to scratch her paws on it. What do you think? I am leaning towards a dark brown(mocha or chocolate) colored velvet or microfiber.( Don't say neither because what i have right now, even goodwill wouldn't accept it.)

  • I have microfiber and the dogs hair just sticks to it, that's why they aren't allowed on furniture anymore

  • i originally thought of leather til at a friends house i realized leather wasn't cozy enough for me...kinda chilly.

  • I have microfiber, a carmel brown sofa, and have a black lab chow with long hair. I haven't had too much trouble. he doesn't get on the furniture, but he does lean up against the sides, and I don't end up with dog hair on the side of the sofa.

    I do however have dog hair all over the carpet and floors constantly!

  • leather but i hate leather, my animals aren't allowed on the furniture though, i have fake suede lol but i don't have a problem with hair b/c they're not allowed on the couches

  • Leather is great. You can just sponge off a peanut butter sandwich. The cat will claw it though.

  • we have a microfiber couch and the dog's hair comes off pretty easily...but then she's not supposed to get on it so its a rare thing. a regular lint brush easily takes care of it. i dunno about cat claws tho.
