What to buy for a guy in the hospital?

I have a guy friend, who is having surgery, and I'm going to visit him in the hospital. what should i bring him, I didn't know if flowers would be the right thing to buy, anybody have any idea. If flowers which ones to get.

I agree with meooma. A word search or crossword puzzle book is good. I don't know that I would go with flowers, some hospitals don't allow fresh flowers in certain parts of the hospital (allergies and such). Maybe an inexpensive handheld game like pocket poker or dominoes. Those usually run $10-$15 at Target or Walmart. Chapstick and a small thing of good hand lotion are good to have.

You could go with a nice small plant. Even guys don't want to be in a drab old hospital room. A plant kinda adds a little life. The hand held poker game is a great idea, though!
