I cannot count how many times I read on here of anti animal lovers making such a fuss about people and pets and yes, children and even new born. I will say however, pets should never really be left unattended around smaller children, but for the most part... I think these other groups of folks *anti pet lovers* need to realize the majority in population of families that own pets and have children, the number is greater than those that have no pets. This alone should say something. Pets are not that bad, if you don't like them that is fine, but I don't think everyone should not have one cuz a few don't agree. What do you all think?
I have two kids ( 2.5 and 4) I also have 3 dogs, 2 cats, 3 parrots, 2 cockatiels, 1 rabbit, 1 hermit crab and a fish tank. We also foster for a dog rescue group so we have a 4th dog a lot of the time. I can't imagine not having pets around my kids. My kids help with feeding and cleaning (to an age appropriate level) and they love it. They love to walk the dogs with me, help bathe them, playing with the parrots and teaching the foster dogs new tricks. I think that they are both better for having pets in thier lives. The learn compassion, responsibility, and empathy. They have learned about life and death and the fact that some animals are neglected and that love and training , and a warm bed can make them well again. I do have pet hair on the couch and floor, but a vacuum takes care of that everyday. I do have to clean cages as well as the house, but I can't imagine living any other way.
