Im stupid for letting my son say grandpa in a different language?

my 14 month old ds calls my dad yeahyeah (chinese for grandpa) and *MY* grandparents(who like to be called weenannie and grandpapa) freaked out on me saying why couldnt i have taught him an english word, how stupid i am for letting him say it ect just happy he's talking a little bit (other then yeahyeah he says mama dada and tries to say dog)

so what do your toddlers call their grandparents or great grandparents

    We are maw maw and pop pop but hubs was curbumb for a long time no clue what it meant but our little one calls my dad Senior Papa and my mom mamacita granny just because and they think its adorable.

  • It's really none of their business. My boys call my in-laws "bubbe" and "zeyde", which are the Yiddish words for grandma and grandpa.

    If they think you're stupid for allowing him to say grandpa in Chinese- perhaps they think you're too stupid to spend time with and should just stay away :)

  • My husband is from the UK so his parents are Nanny and Grandad. Mine are boring old Grandma and Grandpa. :)

  • Not stupid at all. My DD has said grampa gramma once, but that is it. She doesn't really see them ever. My ILs want to be called Gigi and Pops, but they will take whatever she decides to call them.
    However I am excited to report that I got DD to say "domo" which is thank you in Japanese! Been working on that for like 4 months! Dozo is next.
