I use ice packs in the insulated bag. I guess I'm just weird that way. I use the hard plastic blue ice ones that you get at the grocery store in the picnic / paper goods isle (I think that's where I have found them). They also might be in housewares.
these for dd's b/c they're flat and don't take up as much room
