do you really need vanilla extract for cookies?

I don't have any and i want to make cutour cookies with the kids, i have icing and sprinkles for flavor, if it's just a flavor issue

  • I started using spiced rum in all my resipes as a substitute for vanilla years ago. Do you have any other extract flavorings? Peppermint schnapps? anything like that will do

  • I use Kahlua instead of vanilla extract. You don't need it though.

  • It adds a little bit of richness to the cookies. You don't need it, but unless substitute it with something else, they may taste flat.

  • You don't need it. The flavor will be a little different. If you want, perhaps a litlte maple or pancake syrup if you have some, or some other flavoring. But none is needed. I'd replace the teaspoon or so forth of vanilla with that amount of water or milk.
