# Riding a stationary bike equals how many miles of walking

I am wondering how many mile on a stationary bike equals how many miles of walking. May sound funny but I want to walk atleast 5 miles everytime I exercise but sometimes I get on my stationary bike and I am not sure if it is equal.

• It takes me 15 minutes per mile to walk. So Five miles would be 75 minutes. You would need to do about 75 minutes on the stationary bike.

• I was just searching the same thing and your question came up on google. Here's another link I found in the search. I figure it's safe to trust a .edu website with this answer! :)

• I found a chart with some more reliable info based on energy expenditure. 1 minute on the bike is equal to 187 steps at a moderate pace. I found it on the UGA cooperative extension website. Below is the link with a list of other exercises and their equivalents. I was curious too!
