  • Typically a peanut butter sandwich cut into some recent holiday shape, Greek yogurt, carrots to dip in the yogurt, raisin mix with dark chocolate chip and multigrain Cheerios in a glass container, water with a twist of lime or lemon depending on the day in a glass water bottle, apple sauce, and a small item such as Nilla wafers or Teddy Ghrams. Some days home made version of spaghetti O's with organic purée carrots and spinach added to the sauce, sliced fresh bakery garlic bread, a dark chocolate mint, water with lemon or lime, apple sauce, and granola for a treat. Other days it might be sliced ham cut into bite sized chucks, fresh pineapple slice cut up into friendly bites, apple sauce, dark chocolate square, and Greek yogurt, apple juice in glass bottle container. My child's school is really into healthy and into recycling. We pack left overs or just throw stuff together that make sense. No school lunches are offered.

  • I usually send a sandwich or other "main course" along with something else (crackers, applesauce, baby carrots, pretzels....), a piece of fruit, a dessert type snack (a cookie, scone, piece of chocolate, cupcake, candy or other treat) and water.

Frequently we send leftovers. So she might have a slice of pizza, some pretzels, grapes, a cookie, and water. Or she might have cut up pork chop, applesauce, leftover steamed broccoli, a cookie, water. Or leftover pasta with sauce, a few slices of baguette with butter, some apple slices & Nutella for dipping, and water. Or leftover beef stew, cornbread, an apple, brownie, water.

I bake regularly for decent variety. Her fave cookie is orange chocolate chip. If we are using packaged cookies, I usually give her a few of them (ginger snaps, Newman-O's etc.)

Right now, she is on a pomegranate kick & gets 1/4 of the fruit in her lunch.
She also loves getting kiwi for her fruit in season.
