Verbs: Help! Help me help my kid. Action word, right? Well...

Verb: expresses action or being (huh). A verb and subject should agree:

1. The French invented the game of checkers. Verb is invented. I get that.
2. Most checkerboards have 64 squares. Verb is have? I'm not so clear.

The game of checkers is more than 700 years old. Verb: is.
Is "is" a state of being here?

  • Yes, IS and HAVE are those "being" verbs. WAS,AM, HAS, HAD, etc are all "being" verbs

  • Well thanks, thought I was losing my mind there for a second. Don't think I've looked at grammar since fifth grade!
