Negotiators agree on $790B price for stimulus bill

WASHINGTON – Negotiators for Congress and the White House have tentatively settled on a $790 billion price tag on President Barack Obama's economic stimulus bill and are working to narrow differences on individual elements of the bill.

After unofficial talks stretching into the late evening on Tuesday, officials announced a formal meeting of negotiators for mid-afternoon in the Capitol as they try to get a bill to Obama's desk for signing by week's end.

if you read the whole article you will see that the first change is getting less on the working tax credit. it went from a 1000 per coupe to 800.

how does this really make a difference??? And how come if they are trying to help Americans they are just taking back everything that they said that they were going to do for us??

  • It is a spending bill, not a stimulus bill. They are just calling it a stimulus bill. Less than l% will go for small business tax cuts. Small business creates most of the jobs in this country. Most of this bill will not go into effect until 2010 or 2011. This bill will give government more power than they have ever had, which in my opinion is a very dangerous thing.

  • Well lets see, there are millions upon millions of people in the US so cutting down to 800 from 1000 will save 200 per household so I can see the savings right off the top. Second did you really believe the govt gives a crap about us? It isnt their job to give us anything. Our parents never got hand outs from the govt, they worked and saved or were just broke and went without. Either way come on what is 1000 or even 800 going to do for anything besides buy them that big screen?

  • Why is everyone looking for a handout? It didn't work last year when they sent out checks. I don't understand why everyone wants a handout.

  • did you read the entire article?
there's no mention of this cut for couples from $1000 to $800.
in fact: "The president sought $500 for individuals and $1,000 for couples."

  • IMO most of this is garbage.. the bill is suppose to create jobs.. but the only jobs i see are short term, and the rest is government spending. Most can be put on the back burner (like the go green for the government crap). "it will save tax payers $2Billion a year" says Obama.. but he forgets we will be spending doubt on said project due to interest rates of this package.. and it will be our children paying this debt.. how is it going to save $2Billion a year to tax payers? Would it not be smarter to work on projects as they need it, to slowly work into making it green? But they want it NOW! Well we want more jobs NOW!. ... see they don't listen. They don't care, it's all about them.
