twin mommas please respond! (as well as any mom with advice of course!)

My twin boys are almost 3 now and we are going to get them a new bed, my question is which do you reccomend? a twin or full with side rails for them to share or each child having an individual toddler bed? i pose this question because i cant decide money is tight so buying only one bed would be cheaper, plus i can easily get a twin or full mattress for free whereas i have to buy a crib mattress new, also, they do sleep very close almost always, and i plan to do their room in cars, and at target they have these really neat sleeping bags, maybe i can make sure one is on the floor if they dont want to sleep together and let them make the choice? please help asap!

  • Do they share a bed now? If not, sharing may cause more problems then it's worth. They'll wake each other up, fight over the covers, and have tickling matches. In this case, I'd either get a full mattress so they have lots of room or get two twins. You can always put the mattresses right on the floor for now and get box springs and frames later. That also saves money on buying bed rails since they will only fall a few inches.

If they do share now, what do you plan on doing for them when they are too big to share beds? Bunkbeds? If so, I'd get the mattress size that will fit the bunkbeds (usually twin). Then you'll already have one mattress when they are old enough for the bunkbeds.

  • my twin girls are almost two. i switched from cribs to toddler beds around 18 months. they dont share a bed and havent since they were a few weeks old. we got toddler mattresses and put them straight on the floor. they have them at my parents house too, we got those mattresses at a used furniture store. the toddler mattresses are completely vinyl covered so once you clorox them they are nice a clean unless they have holes. so try to find them used somewhere, otherwise i would suggest getting just twin size matresses, straight on the floor. i wouldnt suggest buying 1 full cause kids grow so fast it wont be long before they decide they want/need their own beds. might as well get them now. you can also check resale shops for those - many have brand new matresses for sale as well a used and they are cheaper.

  • I would get them each a twin bed....Not a full, because they wont want to share for long.
You can get twin mattresses at good deals sometimes..

  • My older twins (age 3) sleep in twin beds. (Bunk beds, actually, but separated.) We found this to be much cheaper than buying toddler beds now and then having to buy twin or full beds later.
