Why do people use Hitler as an example all the time?

Why is it that invariably people will bring up Hitler in an argument about ANYTHING! It doesn't matter what the topic. They'll write, "Hitler did so and so. SO, there." Why do we use the most inflammatory name out there? There must be better ways to make an argument.

OK. I feel better now that I got that out there. What do you think of it?

  • Godwin's law - invoking Hitler means you automatically forfeit the argument. Too bad more people aren't aware of that rule

  • I saw one with someone saying Hitler mixed religion and politics. I don't understand why people have to go there either.

  • People just think he's horrible, not that I disagree but he was smart & smooth enough to get thousands to do his dirty work. He had some skills.
