Anybody know anything about Jehovah's Witnesses?

Is consuming alcohol forbidden? I know they general do not celebrate birthdays or holidays, but what about social parties?

  • As far as I know there is no prohibition in the Jehovah's Witness religion regarding the moderate consumption of alcoholic beverages. However, drunkenness is not acceptable behavior.

  • If I remember correctly from a friend who left that religion, it is forbidden.

  • The top Google searches show it is fine in moderation.

I wouldn't be surprised if certain JW Halls or families taught otherwise.

  • My mom used to be and it's not forbidden. It might be heavily discouraged within certain congregations. I don't recall any time while she was deep in that faith that she refused a glass of wine now and then (rarely, but no different than when she wasn't a JW). I would imagine like with all faiths, substance abuse is not acceptable.

  • I grew up JW. Drunkenness is discouraged, but alcohol consumption is not.
