  • tnm, my 7 year old would have been Lily Miranda if he had been a girl. I love the name Lily.

  • I had a speech delay and a weird name, everyone said it wrong and than could not understand me when tried to correct them. No little pencils or anything with my name on it. Very sad, no licence plates for my.bicycle.
My children all have common names...

  • There is a difference between giving a unique name and giving a name that is beyond all recognition as a name, whether by spelling it differently or by picking some random word to be a name. I swear I am waiting for there to be some poor kid named Doily , Tangerine or Chlamydia...

  • 'Unique' as in a name that's not common anymore is very, very different from 'unique' as in my parents were high when they named me and now I'll never be able to get a job unless I legally change my name. The 'unique' names people dislike fall in the latter category.

  • I like classic names, older names. I don't consider them unique, when I hear unique I think purposely misspelled or made up, or just strange like Pilot Inspektor. lol. I have noticed a lot of people don't like classic names, they think they are ugly or old. But I enjoy them. I think sometimes people can be rude when expressing their dislike - which is unfortunate.

  • Most uniquie names are spelt so you can't even say them right. Kids can be so mean too.

  • I don't mind names that are "different". I just don't like them when they're so unusual that I can't figure out how to pronounce it.

  • I know someone that named her daughter Strummer. I didn't tell her, but I think it's sad she picked such a weird name. Of course all of her hipster friends think it's great. I'm used to it now, but I really was shocked and disappointed at first.

  • I'll be honest, if kids are so inclined they can find a way to make fun of the name Kim.

There's been so much discussion about names over the last couple of days. I just think parents should name their kids what they want and not worry so much about what other people think.
