2 Samuel 7:12-16

In 2 Samuel 7:12-16 God promises the Jewish people that the dynasty descending from King David shall never lose rule over Israel, not even temporarily for a generation or two.

Where in the Bible, chapter and verse, does it excuse God for breaking that covenant?

  • Why do you think there are so many wars over it?

  • I interpret those passages differently. It says "your throne shall be established forever". Since Jesus descended from David's lineage, and Jesus sits on the throne of God, the passage is fulfilled. I don't think the scriptures say what you think it does. God never breaks His promises.

  • Why would atheists concern themselves with this when according to atheist, God doesn't exist? If God doesn't exist then Jesus didn't fulfill the scriptures and rise from death to take His place as the fulfillment of this prophecy. Just wondering and I agree with missanc. A lot of the Old Testament is speaking in terms of then and what's to come.

  • I don't think that the *hopes* and *beliefs* of a people count as a literal covenant with God, as those are the words of man, not of God. IMO it's akin to those who believe God favors the USA today or attempt to speak for Him now, saying this natural event was the result of His will or His hand, etc, etc. Human perception and intuition is flawed, not God Himself.

  • HHx5 because some atheists are hell bent on trying to find some way to disprove God or to discredit Him. For some reason there are those who can't stand that people believe in a higher being and instead of just "live and let live" they feel they need to insult and criticise those who do and try to make them feel stupid. Like that has ever caused anyone to change their ways. Just wanted to clarify I said SOME atheists, NOT all atheists.

  • This scripture doesn't mention Isreal but is talking about the legacy of King David. His legacy has endured through Christ, because Christians believe he is the decedent of David. Also some believe that Queen Elizabeth is a decedent of David, but I have no idea about this.
